Job Description:
Senior Materials and Process Engineer page is loadedSenior
Materials and Process EngineerWe are looking for a subject matter
expert on all aspects of PCB material selection and design. Your
work will enable the development of innovative printed circuit
boards and assembly solutions for NVIDIA's next generation consumer
and datacenter products. You will be working closely with a team of
electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and product engineers,
as well as outside component suppliers and manufacturing partners
to define component, assembly & manufacturing processes that meet
aggressive design targets. You will guide supplier process
development and integrate components into the R&D and
production workflows in support of new, ground breaking computing
systems. The ideal candidate brings experience working closely with
suppliers on the materials and processes used in PCBs and related
assemblies, preferably using novel materials. You enjoy working in
a multi-disciplinary environment, and you excel at translating
functional requirements into prototype design requirements and then
guiding those products through development into high-volume
manufacturing. You are able to identify requirements and
constraints and lead effective test programs that navigate these
inputs. You are a strong communicator who keeps team members
informed and involved. What you will be doing:
- Materials selection, qualification, and manufacturing process
development of PCB materials for high power electronics devices
used in consumer and datacenter applications.
- Collaborate closely with outside suppliers and manufacturing
partners to develop and validate hardware solutions, ensuring that
project work and timelines are clearly defined, communicated and
updated.
- Systematically plan and lead the execution on experiments to
identify and study property-structure relationships of PCB
materials and manufacturing processing metrics, optimizing for
performance, cost, and yield.
- Collect, interpret, and present data from disparate sources to
internal partners.
- Collaborate closely with product managers to ensure new product
specifications are met or exceeded.
- Develop and document validation test plans, incorporating
pass/fail criteria that align with hardware performance
targets.
- Lead failure analysis studies and feed root cause data back
into the development cycle for iterative design and process
improvement.
- Identify and predict trends in PCB materials and manufacturing
processes.What we need to see:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical
Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
(or equivalent experience).
- 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Extensive polymer science background with a deep understanding
of structure-property relationships of typical PCB thermoset and
thermoplastic materials.
- In-depth knowledge of the entire PCB stack, from resins and
prepreg materials to metallization techniques to SMT solder reflow
process conditions.
- Extensive experience in the PCB manufacturing industry with
strong industry ties.
- Proven experience in systematically planning and executing
experiments to optimize processes or products.
- Experience with PCB metallization techniques such as electro-
and electroless plating and physical vapor deposition techniques
such as sputtering, thermal evaporation, and e-beam
evaporation.
- Extensive experience with material characterization techniques
including FTIR, NMR, dielectric s-parameters, yield strength,
tensile strength, elastic modulus, thermal conductivity, and
coefficient of thermal expansion.
- Hands-on experience with identifying and solving defects &
process control issues in PCB and components, both in-house and at
partners/suppliers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as
excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ways to stand out
from the crowd:
- PhD in a related field.
- Experience with advanced and innovative PCB manufacturing
techniques and materials is a plus!
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to
PCB materials and manufacturing.
- Background with PCB layout tools. The base salary range is
160,000 USD - 304,750 USD. Your base salary will be determined
based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in
similar positions. You will also be eligible for equity and
