University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sacramento State is seeking a
Fitness Equipment Technician for The WELL. What makes The WELL at

UEI and the University Union Operation of Sacramento State (Union
WELL, Inc.) are auxiliaries of Sacramento State and California
501(c)3 not-for-profit corporations. The Union WELL, Inc. consists
of the facility operations and programs of two buildings: The
University Union and The WELL (Recreation & Wellness Center). The
University Union facility, totaling approximately 220,000 square
feet, currently houses food service operations, retail operations,
multiple meeting and conference spaces, Associated Students, Inc.,
Student Organizations and Leadership offices, Women's Resource
Center, PRIDE Center, KSSU Student Radio, Public Information Desk,
Games Room, Union Gallery, Terminal Lounge (music/video digital
media), Student Computer Lounge, Meditation Room, computer and
printer workstations throughout the building, a University Police
Service Center, and various open lounge spaces. The WELL, totaling
approximately 165,000 square feet, houses five fitness studios, a
cardio suite, two fitness floors, a multi-activity court, four
basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, four racquetball courts,
an indoor running track, locker rooms, and conference center. The
WELL is also home to Student Health and Counseling Services. The
facilities provide services to over 31,000 students, as well as
faculty and staff on campus.

RATE OF PAY: $3,886 - $5,829 per month

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay),
benefited position that is covered under the California Public
Employees' Retirement System. Continued employment in this position
is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises and
the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee
can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will,
with or without cause.
The selected candidate must furnish proof of eligibility to work in

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated professional experience in semi-skilled fitness
equipment maintenance and repair work.
Demonstrated working knowledge of common methods, practices, and
materials used in the maintenance and repair of fitness
equipment.
Demonstrated working knowledge of routine and preventative safety
practices of fitness equipment, as well as various tools used in
the trade, and their proper use and care.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Demonstrated experience working with computer software
applications, including word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation,
internet, and email software, such as the programs in the Microsoft
Office Suite.
Experience working in a multicultural environment.
Must acquire CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor certification within
three (3) months of employment. Certification must be kept
current.
Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment and to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with a
variety of staff and the surrounding community.
Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check . Must continue
to meet the established standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology/Exercise
Science, or related field.
Specialty certifications and knowledge that pertain to specific
fitness equipment pieces and vendors.
Demonstrated experience maintaining fitness equipment in large
fitness centers, with a robust equipment offering.
Demonstrated experience supervising or leading one or more
employees., including selecting, training, coordinating,
evaluating, and supervising.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
With or without a reasonable accommodation: Sit for extended
periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand
coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal
communication; use of office equipment including computers,
telephones, calculators, copy machines, fax machines, printers, and
scanners. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office and fitness center environment, with
continuous contact with staff and frequent contact with the campus
community and the public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Fitness Equipment Technician is responsible for the management
and maintenance of The WELL's fitness equipment assets, which
includes performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled
tasks focusing on the repair and maintenance of fitness equipment
and supervising a team of part-time student employees. In addition,
the position will assist in the documentation of all fitness
equipment assets, support budget planning, monitor expenses, assess
program learning outcomes, and facilitate maintenance workflow
management when it specifically relates to fitness equipment. This
position reports to and receives general supervision from the
Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness. The Fitness Equipment
Technician will provide daily work direction to fitness equipment
part-time staff, including student assistants.
The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs fitness equipment, including
but not limited to spin bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, stair
climbers, selectorized weight equipment, free weights, and racks to
ensure the safety of equipment users and promote equipment
longevity.
Maintains daily, weekly, monthly, biannual, and/or annual
preventative maintenance schedule for all fitness, cardiovascular,
and select motorized equipment according to manufacturer's
recommended service schedules and warranties.
Inspects equipment daily for safety issues. Immediately removes
equipment from service and informs the Assistant Director, Fitness
& Wellness, if any issues are found.
Attends periodic professional development to remain up to date and
informed on relevant skills pertaining to the repair and
maintenance of fitness equipment.
Addresses and maintains a timely and consistent workflow for
maintenance tickets and the overall management of ticketing
software.
Implements the hiring, training, payroll, supervision, and
evaluation of all fitness maintenance student personnel, program
supervisors, and attendants.
Creates and leads a dynamic and motivated staff team, using a
high-quality process including recruiting, hiring, training,
development, and evaluation of staff.
Assists in the development, review, implementation, and enforcement
of all policies and procedures that will ensure effective
day-to-day use and maintenance of all fitness equipment.
Recommends, to the Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness, future
modifications to fitness equipment using member feedback; makes
improvements and recommends innovative opportunities and changes
that enhance the programs, equipment, and facility.
Assists with the ongoing evaluation of all fitness equipment,
including data analysis, completing participant evaluations and/or
assessments, focus groups, informal discussions, and written
program surveys.
Works with Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness, to edit and
maintain a master facility document for all fitness equipment
assets in the facility.
Supports and maintains sound working relationships with all
partners in The WELL to create a dynamic and fully collaborative
health and wellness program.
Works with Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness on equipment
maintenance and safety, purchasing, replacement schedule, and
customer use of The WELL.
Assists with the management of a strategic planning process and
identifying pertinent projects that are receptive and responsive to
student, faculty, and staff input regarding programs and services
in The WELL.
Serves as a risk manager for all fitness equipment-related
situations. Consult as needed with the Assistant Director, Fitness
& Wellness, and propose appropriate policy changes to provide a
safe environment for all.
Assists in moving and organizing fitness equipment as requested by
the Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness.
Creates and maintains professional relationships with equipment
vendors.
Performs other duties of a similar nature as requested by the
Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness.
Note: This position vacancy is with University Enterprises Inc., an
auxiliary organization of California State University, Sacramento.
This is not a University position; the incumbent will be an
employee of University Enterprises. University Enterprises operates
commercial enterprises on the California State University,
Sacramento campus; it is responsible for grant and contract
management and fiscal services for University research and
sponsored programs and provides fiscal services to University
related agencies and activities. University Enterprises is a
